The Year In Review - Less Breadth, More Depth

By Melissa - Thursday, December 29, 2022

Those were the words I wrote for 2022 as the year before it drew to a close. It meant digging deep and looking hard (within). It meant saying no to certain projects, meetings, jobs offers, and people. It meant learning the importance of fallow time - resting and growing - to produce meaningful work and live a purposeful life.

What an adventure it has been - travelling the world, writing its stories, buying our first apartment, moving countries, building a home in a foreign land, learning the nuances of a new city, navigating through cultural and language differences, running a team, raising a puppy, and so much more… It was quite a bit to pack into twelve months.

Yet, in the midst of the busyness laced with a seemingly endless stream of changes, grace and gratitude continue to be my heart’s lifeline and my soul’s song.

Less breadth, more depth.

To be focused on what truly matters, not what is popular. To be defined by being, not by doing. To be anchored in the eternal, not the ephemeral.

If I were to round up my favourite moments from the year, these four would the defining highlights:

  • Celebrating my birthday in Cambodia and building a water well for the locals in a village in Siem Reap, thanks to the generous contributions from family and friends.
  • Receiving the keys to our apartment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia just days before moving countries.
  • Having my heart forever smitten and irrevocably stolen by Flynn, our grey toy poodle.
Flynn. The apple of our eyes and the joy of our hearts.

As the pages gently turn and we inhale the scent of a new page, pen swirling to write the story of who we are becoming and with the promise of more ahead, I am evermore thankful for new beginnings. There are chapters in our lives that mark us forever - 2022 is one of them. Here's to a year that has exceeded expectations - to more wild adventures, fearless love, and dreams fulfilled.

Happy New Year, everyone!

With love from our little family,
Flynn + Flynn's Mummy.
