I am pleased. Extremely pleased.

I have just watched the highly anticipated second instalment of 007: Quantum Of Solace and I left the cinema with a huge smile plastered across my face. A direct continuation from Casino Royale, the sequel boasts more physical stunts and a stellar ensemble cast with newcomers like Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton lighting up the big screen.

In QOS, Bond holds a bitter vendetta and is out to discover the person who sent Vesper Lynd to manipulate him and betrayed his love. It may seem as though he is driven to settle the score, but ultimately he is more concerned about knowing the truth in order to move on from the past.

Director Marc Forster adds varied chases, whether it is in an airplane, car or land. The slight disappointment would be that the car chases were conducted in ordinary cars instead of the usual Bond choice: Aston Martin. There are also a couple of hand-to-hand combats to look out for.

Also, I was rather dismayed with the portrayal of Dominic Greene by Matiheu Almaric. His version of a leader of an organization with allies within several governmental agencies threatening to take over was flawed. He did not provoke in me the loathing and bad feeling I should possess when encountering such a villain.

However, Craig’s depiction of Bond deserves a worthy mention. Calm, composed and with convincing display of emotions, he is no doubt the unmistakable choice to carry on the Bond franchise, assuming there’s more to come. He is still as charming, sexy and gorgeous. And yes, the well-toned physique is more smouldering than ever. I am officially a fan of Mr. Craig.

All in all, I infer QOS as a superb movie to catch, with a concrete storyline, well-developed plot and excellent cast.

Rating: 4/5
